Hose handle or personal mouth tip?

A hookah mouthpiece can mean two different parts: the long handle at the end of the hose or a small personal mouth tip. The handle is the part you hold. A short tip fits over or inside it, depending on the design. Disposable plastic mouth tips and reusable personal tips therefore do not necessarily replace a full-length glass or metal mouthpiece.

Glass or stainless steel: a different feel in your hand

A glass hookah mouthpiece can be straight and understated or shaped with twisted contours. Transparent models also let you see residue inside. Glass needs a secure resting place and protection from knocks, though. Stainless steel is more resistant to everyday impacts and weighs more than aluminum in a comparable design. Whether you prefer something light or a more substantial handle is a handling preference, not a quality ranking.

Carbon fiber body, metal ends

A carbon fiber hookah mouthpiece often combines several materials. Its carbon tube may have a metal connector and tip, for example. A carbon-look finish, on the other hand, can be a wrap over aluminum. Check the internal construction of wooden mouthpieces too: some combine a wooden handle with a stainless steel tube. Cleaning requirements and the surface touching your lips depend on the complete assembly, not just the decorative grip.

Length, grip and tip shape need to suit you

A short mouthpiece handles differently from a long, slim one. Compare grip thickness, weight and the shape of the tip as well as overall length. A chunky handle does not necessarily have a wide opening at your lips. Draw resistance depends on the open passage through the mouthpiece, connector and hose. Switching from aluminum to glass alone cannot fix a narrow connection. If you only need a different handle, you may not need a whole new hose set.

Hookah hose and mouthpiece: matching the connection

On many silicone hose sets, the tubing slides directly over the mouthpiece's connector stem. Its outside diameter needs to suit the hose's internal diameter. You are not automatically limited to the brand of your hookah. A permanently attached traditional hose handle, however, cannot simply be swapped like a modular silicone setup. Check the included components too: a mouthpiece and hose connector do not constitute a set that includes silicone tubing.

Ice mouthpieces: cooling from an insert

An Ice Bazooka routes smoke past a chilled insert. The cooling pack stores cold; it is not an electrical battery. With the Tribus model, you freeze the gel insert before use and then return it to the housing. This makes the body considerably wider than a slim mouthpiece. The cooling effect diminishes as the insert warms up. It neither replaces cleaning nor turns the mouthpiece into a filter for harmful substances.
