Cleaning the smokebox can be quite a headache. You hold the HMD in your hand after your hookah session and the bottom of it is full of burnt tobacco residue and now you ask yourself how you are ever going to get the whole thing clean again. Therefore, we want to give you a little tutorial on how to clean it.
Soak the HMD
This step should always be followed, because it is much easier to remove the stubborn dirt. After the smoking session, put the lotus or something similar in a bowl of warm water and leave it there for a few hours. This softens the hard crust of burnt tobacco somewhat, making it easier to loosen.
Remove the now soaked layer
In order to be able to remove the tobacco residues now as well as possible, the bottom plate of the HMD should be strongly scrubbed with a steel brush or a steel sponge. If you dont have a brush or sponge available, you can also use a charcoal made from coconut shells. This can be used similarly well.Rinse the smokebox under running water.
After that, you hold the head attachment once again under the tap so that the now loose remains of it fall off. If you are not yet satisfied with the result, you can go back a step and brush the bottom again a little.Let it dry
Now that everything is clean, you should either let the HMD dry or if you want to use it again right away, dry it with a towel. If you followed these instructions correctly, then the smokebox should be relatively clean again. Of course, it wont be as completely clean as when you first used it, but the result should be pretty close. It is also important to note that the color of colored HMDs can come off during brushing. Furthermore, you should only brush the HMD in one direction, otherwise unsightly scratches can occur.
