From acrylic cubes to soft-touch bodies

A plastic hookah might have a transparent acrylic base, a compact ABS body or individual functional components made from plastic. A travel design can do away with a separate glass base, while a larger model with a plastic sleeve may still stand on glass. You are not simply choosing between plastic and metal, but between different constructions. Plastic and stainless steel can be deliberately combined in the same setup.

Engineering plastic, not just decoration

POM appears in the material specification of the Moze Breeze Two, for example. This rigid plastic absorbs little moisture and can be machined precisely. It is not a soft rubber part or the same thing as a soft-touch coating. The Amotion Roam instead combines ABS with a stainless steel core. Look at which plastic is used and where, rather than treating every plastic hookah as the same construction.

Transparent does not automatically mean glass

Acrylic is a plastic, also known as PMMA. A clear acrylic base keeps the water level and interior visible without using glass. Tritan is another transparent plastic, used by Kaloud for one version of its Eltheria dome. A photograph alone therefore cannot reliably tell you whether a clear component is glass or plastic.

Sometimes the extra weight is intentional

Despite its compact plastic exterior, the Amotion Roam weighs around 1.2 kg. Its stainless steel core deliberately adds stability. For travel, the lowest possible weight is not the only consideration: packed size and a stable stance matter too. Plastic does not automatically mean featherlight.

A soft finish over a rigid construction

A soft-touch finish can feel soft and grippy even when the body underneath is rigid. It does not make the whole hookah flexible. Matching mouthpieces can carry that feel through to your hose. The finish is not indestructible, though: Amotion explicitly notes that the surface of its soft-touch mouthpiece can wear with prolonged use. That tactile finish still needs appropriate care.

Clean clear tanks without scratching them dull

Lukewarm water, a soft cloth and a suitable mild dish soap are a sensible starting point. Rinse thoroughly and allow the parts to dry. Glass cleaners and solvents are not automatically suitable for acrylic. Check compatibility with the specific material and avoid abrasive sponges. Only use a dishwasher with explicit manufacturer approval. A wide tank opening, such as the Cloud Micro's, makes the interior easier to reach. You can access residue without forcing a stiff brush through a narrow bottle neck.
